The Tibet Autonomous Regional Health Department distributed for free brochures on HIV/AIDS prevention and control to residents in Lhasa Tuesday, to mark the 22nd World AIDS Day.

With the theme of "stop AIDS, keep the promise", the 2009 World AIDS Day aims to arouse people's health awareness, increase their understanding of HIV/AIDS and stop them from discriminating against HIV/AIDS patients.

The medical staff spread the AIDS prevention and control knowledge and urged the public to care more about the HIV/AIDS patients and carriers.

Except for Ngari Prefecture, six other prefectures in Tibet have reported HIV/AIDS-positive cases, according to Yudron Lhatso, an official of the Tibet Autonomous Regional Center for Disease Prevention and Control.

Tibet has been doing HIV/AIDS prevention work since 1994, with all medical institutions establishing laboratories to test the virus.
