China's Central Government allocated 395 million yuan (57.85 million U.S. dollars) to Tibet for the projects to turn some farmland into woods from early 2002 to the end of November of 2009.

Thanks to these projects, 16,666 ha of cultivated land have been turned into forests and pastures, benefiting 306,000 rural residents in 46 counties, according to the Tibet Autonomous Regional Forestry Bureau.

Various kinds of subsidies offered by the government have also increased the incomes of those residents involved in such projects, with an annual per-capita income of farmers and herders increasing by 764 yuan. Each household can receive an average subsidy of 4,448.8 yuan each year.

A leading official of Tibet's forestry department indicated that Tibet is expected to spend at least one billion yuan in restoring reclaimed land to woods in the next few years.
