Tibet implements plan for rural health promotion
10:59, December 17, 2009

The Tibet Autonomous Regional Government has recently introduced an action plan for improving rural residents' health from the next half year of 2009 to 2015.

The plan aims to improve the life quality of farmers and herders, such as raising their average life span, lowering the maternal and infant mortality rate and controlling and preventing diseases, as well as making extensive education in eugenics.

Meanwhile, medical subsidies for rural residents will rise from 140 yuan to 180 per person in 2010, with this subsidy rising further in 2015.

By the end of 2008, funding to free medical care for Tibet's rural residents reached 340 million yuan (about 50 million U.S. dollars,) according to Jin Shengguo, deputy director of the Tibet Regional Health Department.
