December 27, or November 12 in the Tibetan calendar, marks the traditional New Year's Day of the Jiarong Tibetan people.

The Jiarong Tibetan group is a component of China's Tibetan ethnic minority and the Jiarong culture is a characteristic sub-culture of the Tibetan culture.

Danba County, Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, is the birthplace and the core area of the Jiarong Tibetan culture.

The Jiarong Tibetan New Year, running from November 12 to 15 in the Tibetan calendar, is to commemorate the local Tibetan hero Amigeerdong who fights against demons.

During the Jiarong New Year, the Jiarong Tibetans will make steamed breads, hang Thangkas with the portrait of Amigeerdong and perform the Gorchom circle dance.
