13:59, January 04, 2010

Flights shuttling between Lhasa, capital of Tibet and Beijing were almost delayed Sunday due to the heavy snowstorm that hit Beijing on January 3, according to the Air China Tibet Branch.

Two of the runways in the Beijing Capital Airport stopped operation because of the thick snow on surface and only one runway is now open to traffic, causing delay of many flights.

As of 9:00 a.m January 3, the Air China has cancelled 42 flights because of the snowstorm.

According to a worker of the Air China Tibet Branch, flight, which is set to take off from Beijing to Lhasa at nine o'clock, was postponed for half and a hour yesterday. The flight arrived at the Lhasa Gonggar Airport at 4:20 in that afternoon. Flight leaving from Lhasa to Beijing was also delayed.

The worker said airlines on January 4 might be taken off smoothly thanks to the effective measures taken to remove the snow and he also reminded passengers to buy joint ticket for flights departing from Lhasa to Beijing so as to avoid the flight delay.
