Tibet to construct 2,000 low-rent houses in 2010

This year, some 2,000 sets of low-rent apartments will be built in Tibet in a bid to further develop the housing insurance system, sources from Tibet Regional Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau.

According to Chen Jin, head of the bureau, construction of low-income housing, including the low-rent apartments is the priority work for housing and urban-rural development in Tibet this year.

In 2009, 4,236 sets of low-rent apartment have benefited 71 counties in Tibet with a total construction area of 314,500 square meters.

To help needy employees of state-run enterprises and low-income families, Tibet has set a standard for low-rent apartments as the per capita construction area stands at 13 square meters. Up to now, about 1,600 low-income households have moved into cheap-rent houses.
