Nagqu to build world highest airport

An airport located at the 4,436 meters above the sea level will be built up in Nagqu, according to Xu Bo, director of Tibet Civil Aviation Authority.

By then, the Nagqu Airport will become the highest airport in the world which is 102 meters higher than the Bamda Airport in Chamdo, at an elevation of 4,334 meters (14,219 ft).

Nagqu airport with an investment of 1.8 billion yuan, total area of 3,500 mu to 4,000 mu will be built in Dagring County and the construction will start in 2011 and to be completed in three years.

In future, the Nagqu airport, Qinghai-Tibet Highway, Qinghai-Tibet Railway and Nagqu Logistics Center will play an active role in speeding up the economic zone construction and promoting the economic development in Tibet.
