The Jiuzhaigou Scenic Spot, listed on the World Heritage List by UNESCO in 1992, is one of China's largest natural scenic reserves and famous for its colorful water pools, snow mountains, deep valleys and forests.

The festival, which will run till February 28, involves ten types of services including appreciating ice and snow and visiting Tibetan-style villages.

The festival is the first of its kind ever held in the prefecture after the devastating May 12 earthquake last year.

Icefalls have formed as a result of the cold weather even without snowfall these days.
