Fifteen enterprises in Tibet's capital of Lhasa recorded gross sales of 30.78 million yuan (4.54 million U.S. dollars) during the Tibet New Year holiday, up 8.2 percent from the same period last year, according to the Lhasa City Commerce Bureau.

The Tibetan New Year was celebrated from Feb. 13 to 22 in 2010, which was in the same period of the Spring Festival.

The two festivals stimulated the purchasing desire of consumers and gave rise to a prosperous market in Lhasa, according to Tibet Business. Local department stores and supermarkets also seized the opportunity to promote sales.

Statistics show that ten department stores, supermarkets and wholesale and retail enterprises in Lhasa reported total sales of 10.16 million yuan in two days, i.e., Feb. 6 and 7, even before the Tibetan New Year.
