Truth: Thailand refuses visa to Dalai Lama's sister
09:38, March 08, 2010

Thailand has refused to grant a visa to Jizun Pema, the sister of the Dalai Lama to avoid irritating China, according to Thailand Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Jizun Pema as the youngest sister of the Dalai Lama, was due to participate in the three days culture festival and deliver the Buddhist education for Tibetans in exile in Bangkok, capital of Thailand on March 5th.

But the Thai Foreign ministry worried her speech could be linked to Tibet issue of China.

A spokesman for the Thai Foreign Ministry said: "Thailand will support the culture exhibition, but the visa requests of Jizun Pema and her husband had been denied. We have a long-standing policy of not letting any person use Thailand as a base to criticize or undertake activities to hurt other countries."

After Dalai Lama's planned armed rebellion failed in March 1959, he and his sister fled to India and set up a so called Tibetan government-in-exile.
