13:35, March 08, 2010

Plan for regional development in Tibet, southwestern China, during the 12th-Five-Year is now in the pipeline, top official of Tibet said in Beijing.

"The 5th National Work Conference on Tibet brings a glimmer of new hope to Tibet," Padma Choling, deputy of the 11th National People's Congress (NPC) and also chairman of the regional government of the Tibet Autonomous Region, said.

Padma Choling, who is now attending the 3rd Session of the 11th National Committee of NPC, said:"Tourism, Tibetan medicine, mineral product and farm and livestock product, have become pillar industries in the region."

Constructions of highway, airline and railway have also met an unprecedented progress. The running of railway enables Tibet to fit into the big market in China, and also serves as a basis for other western provinces and regions to take part in the development of the region, according to Padma Choling.

"Tibet is going to gear up the integration of mineral resources, quicken steps of setting up a mining company in the region, to ensure the sustainable utilization and development of mining resources." Padma Choling said. "At present the region would mainly focus on shutting up some small mines."
