Tibet Regional People's Congress delegation visits Australia

Speaker of the House of Representatives Harry Jenkins and President of the Senate John Hog met with Tibet Regional People's Congress delegation which was led by Qiangba Puncog at Canberra on March 17.

Qiangba Puncog, director of the People's Congress of Tibet Autonomous Region showed his thanks and said:" I wish this trip to Australia being face to face to Australian officials will further promote mutual understandings between China and Australia and inject vigor to our future exchanges and communications. Tibet issue is one of China's core interests. The conflict between us and the Dalai Lama is not a national issue, not a religious issue, not a human rights issue, but concerns China's sovereignty and territorial integrity. We hope the Australian side could understand and would properly handle the Tibet issue well."

Meanwhile, he introduced the earth-shaking changes have taken place in Tibet in the past over 50 years since Democratic Reform in 1959.

Harry Jenkins, speaker of Australian House of Assembly extends warm welcome to the delegation of TAR's People's Congress in the Parliament House and said:" Australian government will firmly adhere to the one-China policy, and Tibet is an inalienable part of the territory of the People's Republic of China."

At the same day, Tibet Regional People's Congress delegation met with the chairman of Australia & China Parliamentary Friendship Group.
