The total fund of 200 million yuan (30 million U.S. dollars) has arrived for eco-protection and environmental improvement around the Qinghai Lake on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau in 2010.

The financing will be used primarily in six areas, namely, desertification control, river dredging, prevention of grassland degradation, eco-forest building, wetland protection and eco-monitoring.

Covering an area of 4,583 sq km, the lake is china's largest inland lake and also the largest salty lake.

Launched in May 2008, the project will cost a total of 1.57 billion yuan and is set for completion in 2018.

The project is considered crucial to maintaining the balance of ecosystem around the lake in Qinghai Province, as well as improving the living and production conditions of local farmer and herders.
