Tibet's output value shot up 12.4 percent in 2009 to 44.13 billion yuan (6.46 billion U.S. dollars), according to Tibet's Statistical Bureau.

The autonomous region's consumer price index (CPI) inched up by 1.4 percent last year, the bureau said.

Tibet's agriculture and animal husbandry grew steadily last year despite the adverse effects of natural disasters.

The average net per-capita income of rural residents reached 3,523 yuan in 2009, up 11.2 percent, higher than any other area in China.

Meanwhile, the average disposable per-capita income of urban residents was 13,544 yuan, an 8.5 percent rise over 2008.

The consumer price index increased for foodstuffs, tobacco, liquor, clothes and health care. The index dropped mainly for transportation, communications and entertainment, education and stationery. The dwelling price index stayed flat.
