'Tibetan costume' for streets in Lhasa

The project for "offering Tibetan costume for the main streets in Lhasa" is under construction and the 1st phrase of the project is to finish in this May.

Lhasa has made a plan to reconstruct 22 trunk roads linking the Potala Palace, the Jokhang Temple and other attractions with Tibetan style in 3 years since 2009. Unified planned by the Lhasa Construction Bureau, the projects are carried through in 3 phrases and the 1st phrase for 7 streets lasts from October, 2009 to May, 2010.

According to Ma Yongxiang, a staff of the Lhasa Street Reconstruction Office, architectures on the main streets in Lhasa should assort with the styles of ancient architectures including the Potala Palace and the Jokhang Temple, and the reconstruction project will boost the local tourism while protecting ancient Tibetan buildings.
