Birthplace Memorial of Tibetan King Songtsan Gambo to open in June

The Birthplace Memorial of Tibetan King Songtsan Gambo will open to the public in June, sources from the tourist zone of Gyiamar Township, Maizhokunggar County, Lhasa.

60 kilometers away from Lhasa, Gyiamar Township being hometown of Songtsan Gambo attracts as many tourists as the Potala Palace.

"Currently 25 million yuan has been invested to attractions of Gyiamar Township," said Dekyi Drolma, head of the Tourism Bureau of the Maizhokunggar County. "The main architecture of the memorial as well as the external decoration has finished construction and the interior decoration is being done. It is expected that the memorial will complete construction and open to the public at the beginning of June."

Gyiamar tourist zone is a famous tourist zone along the Lhasa-Nyingchi travel line.

Note: Songtsan Gambo, founder of ancient Tibet's Tubo Kingdom (700-900 A.D.), unified all tribes on the Tibet Plateau and made Lhasa the capital of Tibet. During his reign, he promoted Buddhism, created Tibetan characters and unified weights and measures, boosting his kingdom to unprecedented prosperity in economic, cultural and religious development.
