Tibetan drama Zhaxigang to compete for Wenhua Prize

"Zhaxigang", the Tibetan drama telling how people in Zhaxigang Village shakes off poverty by running the cattle farm, will compete for the Wenhua Grand Prize.

China opened its largest national art festival, an influential platform for Chinese performers to showcase their latest creations, in southern Guangdong Province on May 10. At the festival, apart from Zhaxigang, 65 dramas from across the country will compete for the "Wenhua" prize, the highest performance art award in China.

The Tibetan drama showcases the unique Tibetan culture and custom in terms of art, reflecting the happy life of people of all ethnic groups in Tibet and expressing their thankfulness to the help from the Central Government, the State Council and help from all Chinese people.

According to Zhang Zhizhong, head of the Tibet Department of Culture and Art, around 60 actors and actress of the drama will reach Guangzhou on May 13. Besides the drama, the Tibetan artists also prepare a special evening gala, performing a Han language sketch.

The Chinese Art Festival has lasted for eight times so far.
