In recent years, Tibet government takes various measures to reduce infant mortality and maternal mortality rates to further enhance the health status among Tibetan women and children.
Phurbu Drolma introduced that farmers and herdsmen medical care system is improving, especially the Tibetan women who choose the hospital delivery can get reimbursement of all medical expenses. Besides, the newly mother and the escorts will receive 30 yuan and 20 yuan as prize.
At present, Tibet owns a total of 1,329 health institutions, 8,553 beds, and 12,099 medical staffs. The maternal mortality rate and infant mortality rate in Tibet have dropped from 0.715% and 9.14% in 1989 to 0.232% and 2.15% in 2009 respectively.
Meanwhile, the construction projects of Tibet Autonomous Region No. 1 People's Hospital are expected to be completed in three years which will end Tibet's history without special infectious diseases hospital.Source: China Tibet Information Center
