Tibet to hold first Tangka Expo

The Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) is to hold its first Tangka Arts Expo from July to October, 2010, according to the TAR Culture Bureau.

Tangka, a kind of scroll painting embroided on silk, has a distinctive Tibetan feature and a strong religious flavor.

Since its came into being around the 10th century AD, Tangka’s unique artistic style has been highly appreciated by the Tibetan people.

Aiming to boost the Tibetan culture, this Expo will hold a series of activities including a press conference, a Tangka painting exhibition, the TV Forum on 2010 Tibet Tangka Industry and a promotion campaign for best Tangka products.

The Expo is expected to boost the popularity and value of Tangka, set up a platform for Tangka artists to communicate with each other and increase the awareness of protection of traditional Tibetan cultures.
