The exhibition of the fruits gained through the“Pilot Project of Sino-Europe Biodiversity Preservation in Lhasa” kicked off recently in Lhasa, capital city of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region as a review and summary of the achievements. This is the first ecological protection project cooperated with international partners, and one of the 18 national ecological protection projects with international support. The contract of the project was signed in July 2007 supported by China's Ministry of Environmental Protection, and followed by the founding of the steering committee in August.
Lhasa Ecological Protection Center and Biodiversity Office were also set up under the guidance of the steering committee during the past three years. A series of activities themed “Environmental Protection, Love for our Homeland” were carried out among elementary school students such as painting and essay writing competitions.
Up till now, more than 3 million dollars was invested in the project with 1.38 million from the EU and over 1.8 million from the Lhasa Municipal Government.
