As a kind of precious Tibetan medicine whose roots and root-like stems can be made into medicine or be eaten directly, Tahuang is distributed on the Himalayas Mountains of TAR and northeast Yunnan Provice.

It is famous for stone shoals in mountains and wet grasslands with an altitude of 3,900 to 5,000 meters. Tahuang's florescence lasts from June to August and it can grow one or two meters in the shape of a pagoda. In Chinese, Ta means pagoda, which is the origin of its name.
