First Tibetan-Uighur textbooks for hearing impaired children published
15:27, July 15, 2010

China's first textbooksfor hearing impaired children have been published in Tibetan and Uighur languages respectively.

Divided into 3 volumes with both texts and illustrations, this series of textbooks are designed by linguists and experts in hearing and speech rehabilitation for children with hearing problems under the age of six.

Up to 2009, more than 300,000 children in China had recovered from hearing handicaps. However, children of ethnic minorities with the same problem lagged behind in rehabilitation for lack of textbooks in their own languages.

Therefore, the China Rehabilitation and Research Center for Deaf Children (CRRCDC) launched the textbook compilation project last year. In addition, CRRCDC made extra donations of hearing and teaching aids worth 300,000 yuan to hearing rehabilitation institutions in quake-hit Yushu, northwest China's Qinghai Province.

(1 USD equals about 6.78 yuan.)
