Lhasa to apply for national cultural and ecological protection zone

According to Lhasa Municipal Cultural Bureau, the Lhasa Municipal government is planning to apply for "cultural and ecological protection zone of the Lhasa River" at the national level, which is expected to be under scrutiny by experts by the end of July this year.

The cultural and ecological protection zone is constructed in accordance with the goal to building up 10 folk cultural and ecological protection zones at the national level of the "Guideline on Culture Development during the National '11th Five-Year Plan' Period"; and at present 8 protection zones have been decided .

The Lhasa Municipal government is planning to apply for the section of the Lhasa River from the Reting Monastery in Lhundrup County to Chushur County as the "cultural and ecological protection zone of the Lhasa River", covering Lhundrup County, Maizhokunggar County, Takgtse County, Todlung Dechen County, Chushur County and Nyemo County.

At present, the tentative key protection zones include the original culture exhibition area of Reting in Lhundrup County, the cultural protection area of Sherong in Chushur County and the cultural protection area of Gyama in Maizhokunggar County.
