Eleven Tibetan Buddhists from Gelug Sect (Yellow Sect), Nyingma Sect and Sagya Sect were awarded advanced degrees of Tibetan Buddhism at the 6th Degree Granting Ceremony held at China Advanced Buddhism College of Tibetan Language in Beijing on Nov. 3.
The degree recipients already passed strict qualification exams including Tibetan Buddhist sutra and scripture debating, oral thesis defense and evaluation review by the degree granting committee composed of prestigious lamas.
According to the degree-granting system, successful candidates of such an examination will be awarded the "Tho Ram Pa" Degree. Degree holders prove to be well-established in Buddhist studies and are required to play a greater role in promoting the development of Tibetan Buddhism.
