Wildlife well protected in Tibet in 11th Five-Year Plan period
11:14, November 12, 2010

The number of wildlife species in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region has grown dramatically thanks to the effective protective measures during the 11th Five-Year Plan period (2006-2010), according to the regional Forest Bureau.

Tibet boasts over 6,400 kinds of advanced-grade plants, ranking 3rd in China. It is considered as one of the most bio-diversified areas in the world.

Between 2006 and 2010, China has pumped a total of 260 million yuan in protecting wildlife and wetland, as well as building nature reserves in Tibet.

So far, eight state-level nature reserves and 10 regional-level ones have been established, taking up 32.3 percent of the total area of the region.

Besides, with the constructed 8 forest parks and three wetland parks at the national level, the habitat for wildlife in Tibet has been put under good protection.
