Lhasa residents satisfied with local air quality
08:40, January 27, 2011

"It's a blessing to breathe fresh air every day and lead a healthy life," said Ms. Ma, local resident in Lhasa, Tibet Daily reported.

Lhasa has built up ecological shelter zones during the 11th Five-Year Plan period (2006-2010). Its well-maintained environment has reached the national standard of model environment-friendly cities, making it one of the few officially recognized "green" provincial capitals.

In the past five years, Lhasa's air quality was recorded superior in over 98% of the days. Its green coverage ratio has amounted to 40% in urban areas with the per capita green area reaching 10.26 square meters.

"The air is clean, and my hometown-Lhasa is one of the best cities in China. It's neither wet in winter nor muggy in summer. We can enjoy warm sunshine in winter and pleasant cool air in summer," said Tshe Sgron, a new graduate from Sichuan University who returned to work in Lhasa.
