Handicraft center in Lhasa

In a modern and mechanized society, exquisite handcrafts evoke the rich and colorful lives of their creators and intoxicate us with their aesthetics. Dropenling Dropenling Handicraft Development Center in Lhasa, capital city of Tibet Autonomous Region is such a place showing traditional handicraft in the modern era.

Dropenling Handicraft Development Center is dedicated to improving the lives of Tibetan artisans throughout Tibet by selling only unique, high quality handicrafts made by Tibetans. The Tibetan word "Dropenling" means "giving back for the betterment of all sentient beings". Dropenling has achieved its purpose by giving back to hundreds of Tibetan craftspeople all over the Tibet Autonomous Region.

The photo shows the beautiful scenery by the road from Lhasa to Nyingchi.  Nyingchi, which means 'sun throne' in Tibetan, is situated in the southeast of Tibet. It is nicknamed the ‘Switzerland of Tibet.' Nyingchi is famous for its big Yurlung Tsangpo Canyon, the deepest canyon in the world. Perched on top of Hongshan Mountain in the center of Lhasa, Potala Palace was first built in 641 by Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo to greet his bride Princess Wencheng of the Tang Dynasty (618-907). It then became the chief residence of the Dalai Lama after it was reconstructed by the Fifth Dalai Lama between 1645 and 1693.
