The Pulan County in north Tibet's Ngari Prefecture signed contracts with Beijing Apple Foundation and Tibet Toutism co., ltd on September 5, and the total amount of 670 million yuan would be used to eastablish a public welfare found to promote local environmental protection.

In recent years, with the continuous improvement of traffic conditions and the development of tourism, domestic and international tourists or pilgrims visiting the prefecture soar.

According to Lhakpa, deputy mayor of the Pulan County, the number of tourists and pilgrims even reached 16,000, larger than that of local population.

With economic income, tourists also bring plastic bags, beverage bottles and other white pollution.

The county would invest over 7 million yuan for environmental protection during 2011 to 2015, said Lhakpa.

The local Mt. Kangrinboqe is a world-acknowledged holy mountain and regarded as the center of the world by Hinduism, Tibetan Buddhism, Bon (the primitive religion of Tibet) and ancient Jainism.

Together with the Mount Namnani, Mapham Yutso Lake and Lannga Co Lake, it was regarded as the area of holy mountains and sacred lakes.

With cooperation with the public welfare foundations, tourism enterprises and local residents, the local government will establish a "holy mountains and sacred lakes" environmental protection system.

It is said a scenic Management Committee specifically responsible for the management of public environmental fund will also be set up.

A total of 40 rubbish recycling stations have been set to recycle white trash and used batteries along the 52 km ritual walk path around Mt. Kangrinboqe and 78 km path around the Mapham Yutso Lake and the Barga County where Mt. Kangrinboqe stands.
