Tibetan houses and food: Tradition and legacy
08:42, October 09, 2012

The Daofu tibetan houses

On the table, all are traditional and popular foods for Tibetan people.

The traditions, architecture and even the food in Tibet are very different from any other region in China. CCTV reporters from the “On the Road: the Route from Sichuan to Tibet" series made a special visit to Daofu County in western Sichuan Province, a celebrated center of Tibetan culture.

The Daofu tibetan houses, row upon row. They’re mainly brown and white. White walls and the brown-red pigmented wooden structure have charm under blue sky and white clouds.

On the arrival, these Tibetan grandmothers warmly welcome us, giving us the Hada, the traditional Tibetan scarf. A Tibetan girl Zhuoma is pleased to serve as our guide, introducing us to the Daofu houses they are very proud of. As we enter the room, we are hit by a strong and fragrant aroma - Zhuoma told me that this is the scent from local cedar wood.
