Beijing plans to invest 240 mln yuan in aid-Tibet programs in terms of culture, education, medical treatment, science and technology as well as security in 2013, according to the Aid-Tibet Projects Promotion Conference held in Beijing.

Chen Wen, the executive deputy mayor of Lhasa, also deputy director of the Beijing Aid-Tibet Headquarters, said that Beijing had invested a total of 240.545 mln yuan on aid-Tibet programs, which covered various fields, such as culture, education, medical treatment, science and technology as well as security.

Accord to Chen, the renovation and expansion of the Cultural Industry Development Building and the Haidian Elementary School in the Chengguan District of Lhasa, the Liuwu Hospital project of Lhasa, and 12 years’ consecutive education project take priorities among all the aid-Tibet programs.

Based on the “12th Five-Year Plan” of Beijing Aid-Tibet Plan, all the aid-Tibet programs will be set according to certain principles according to the demand of Lhasa.

Beijing will spare no efforts to constantly enhance the self-development capacity of Lhasa and accelerate the transformation of economic development, so as to ensure that Tibet will achieve leapfrog development and long-term stability.

Chen Wen said each project has to finish the preparatory work before May 10, such as the establishment of the project, environmental assessment, approval of land occupation and etc.

In addition, in order to make sure that all the aid-Tibet projects will be under construction by July 1, the overall construction tender is required to be completed by June 30, 2013.
