Garze: 5 dead in SW China earthquake

Five people have been confirmed dead in Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture due to the 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck in southwest China's Sichuan Province on April 20, the provincial seismological bureau said.

Meanwhile, more than 32 casualties have been reported and thousands of families were affected in this area. It caused damage to 3 secondary schools, 16 primary schools, 1 kindergarten houses, some water conservancy facilities and bridges in varying degrees.

Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture is near 600 kilometers away from Ya’an city, epicenter of the earthquake.

At present, the local authorities make all effort to the earthquake relief. All the wounded have been sent to hospital for treatment and further verification of the damage is still under way.

By far, altogether 188 people have been killed in the 7.0-magnitude earthquake in southwest China's Sichuan Province, reported by China Central Television on 8 a.m. this morning.
