Gannan to quicken traffic infrastructure construction
14:41, February 13, 2009

Gannan Tibet Autonomous Prefecture of northwest China's Gansu province will quicken traffic infrastructure construction in a major drive to stimulate the local economy in 2009, according to the Gannan highway general department.

Several highway projects in urban and rural areas will be launched and the project on the Labrang Regional Airport construction expected to be set up.

In recent years, the development of highway traffic has pushed forward many industries in Gannan Tibetan areas, such as Tibetan cultural tourism, commodity sales, stockbreeding, catering and hotels.

With the great support from the government, the local people have pioneered kinds of businesses like "A Grand Day on Pasture," "Tent-hotel," "Weekend Trip in Gannan Grassland," benefiting a lot from the traffic convenience.

The prefecture promised to open the Tiechiliang Tunnel of No. 210 Provincial Road, Diebu-Hongxing Road crossing Gansu and Sichuan Provinces, start building five secondary and tertiary highways, six township blacktops, 36 village roads and 20 natural rural roads by the end of this year.

Meanwhile, 10 township-level bus stops and 100 village-level stops for regular buses will have been founded by the same time.
