Tibet strives for key global tourism destination (II)

Tibet's tourism industry has maintained a great leap-forward development during the 11th Five-Year Plan period (2006-2010). In the next five years, Tibet will become a key tourist destiniatioin in China.

Scientific planning underpins Tibet's tourism development

Tibet has insisted on "scientific planning first" in the development of tourism industry while striving for the industrial standardization and legislation.

During the 11th Five-Year Plan period (2006-2010), Tibet has made several important guidelines regarding the sound and well-planned tourism development of the regional tourism industry, including the "Overall Development Plan for Tourist Industry of Tibet Autonomous Region (2009-2020)", the "11th Five-Year Plan for Tourism Development of Tibet Autonomous Region|".

Tibet aims at big development of tourism during the 12th Five-Year period

In the next five years, China will endeavor to build itself into a world power in tourism, with Tibet as one of the key areas in the plan.

Tibet will emphasize its unique charms of "high Mountain, snow-capped plateau, sunshine and Tibetan culture" to attract travelers from both home and abroad.

Local tourism authority concerned estimated that by 2015, the total number of visitors to Tibet is expected to reach 15 million, with the tourism revenue to reach 1.8 million yuan and local population involved in tourism business up to 300,000.

Tibet's theme tourism to gain more popularity-cultural, ecological, border and discovery tourism programs

To further promote Tibet's image as the "Roof of the world","Magic Tibet", local government will explore various routes in Tibet’s tourism, and establish a batch of competitive theme tourist destinations, such as national ecological park, wildlife zoo and special rural vacation village, etc.

Tibetan culture is another attraction for tourists. A large number of culture streets will be available in different local areas for travelers to experience authentic Tibetan flavor.
