
During the period of the twelfth "five-year" plan (2011-2015), Tibet will enhance the management of medium and small rivers to improve anti-flood capacity in the region. It will complete the management of 99 rivers in the nest five years, and the total investment reaches three billion yuan.
Among the 99 rivers, there are nine rivers with 3,000 square kilometers drainage area and 90 covering 200-3000 square kilometers. The total length of the revetment constructed will reach 2098.26 km.
As a microcosm of the project, at the two side of Phanpo river in Lhunzhub County of Lhasa, a construction team were carrying out flood protection work. When it is completed, the irrigation problems of 28,000 mu farmland and pasture in seven counties around will be solved, and the capacity of flood control will be greatly enhanced.
It is understood that in addition to the implementation of medium and small river management, Tibet will carry out the reinforcement work of 24 small-scale reservoirs and other work to eliminate the danger of glacial lakes.
