Soil Forest-Ruins of Guge Kingdom

The soil forest, a former lake sediment in the ancient times, was formed during the Himalayan orogeny. The most typical soil forest in Zanda County, western Tibet, lies around Toling Town, at an altitude from 3,750 to 4,450 m, with an area of 888 square kilometers. It is believed as the world's largest of its kind formed in the weathering of tertiary strata.

The ruins of the Guge Kingdom are located in Tsada County, Ngari Prefecture, western Tibet. Descendants of the Tubo Kingdom founded the Guge Kingdom in the ninth century A.D. and developed the Guge civilization, a fusion of the eastern and western cultures. There are 300-plus caves and crude huts at the foot of the relics. On the hillside are temples and monks' dormitories with Buddhist sculptures and color frescoes inside.
