Tibetan specialties, fashion gifts for Spring Festival
13:19, January 16, 2012

Various Tibetan specialties, such as yak meat, buttered tea and Tibetan shawls, have become favorite gifts for inland Chinese to send to their family members and friends for the upcoming Spring Festival.

As the Spring Festival is approaching, more and more people come to post parcels at the post hall of Lhasa, capital of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region.

These days, Tibetan specialties have made up a large part of the parcels to be posted to inland areas, for many people have chosen them as presents for the Spring Festival, said a staff member from the Lhasa post office.

"The Spring Festival is coming and I want to post some Tibetan specialties, such as yak meat and saffron, to my family members and friends," said Grandma He, who came to work in Tibet in 1976 and opened a clinic with her husband in Lhasa after retirement.

"Tibetan specialties become more and more popular in inland areas," she said. "My folk fellows in Xianyang, a city of northwest China's Shaanxi Province, like them very much and I post a lot this year."

In recent years, Tibet has increased investment in the research and production of Tibetan specialties and local food industries has achieved great development.
