European scholar:Tibet is never a state secret

Editor's Note:A Belgian researcher on Tibet named Jean Paul recently published an article on his personal website entitled "Tibet is never a State Secret".

In his article, he presented that the Dalai Lama has taken the Chinese policy of forbidding over-grazing on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau as damaging the traditional lifestyle of Tibetans. He pointed out that this kind of groundless accusation was made with ulterior motives.

The translated version is as follows:

According to those plotting "Tibet Independence" and the separatist forces supporting them, it seems that no one knows about the eco- environment protection on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. However, quite the reverse is true. China has provided a lot of information about the Plateau and its eco-environmental protection issues.

In fact, China and Germany once co-organized a forum discussing desertification caused by global warming and drought in December 2010, when the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration also tracked this problem by establishing relations with the Chinese government.

The cooperative forum between the two countries concluded that further expansion of desertification can be prevented through forbidding over-grazing.

Now, it is apparent that there has been already too much livestock relative to the carrying capacity of the Plateau.

In addition, as desert comprises nearly one fourth of China's territory, the per capita cultivable land is naturally very limited. Think about the fact that 20 percent of the world's population relies on only 7 percent of the total cultivable land.

So, China has always dedicated to maintaining a green Qinghai-Tibet Plateau through making a large amount of investment and seeking international cooperation.

However, the Dalai Lama interpreted the Chinese government's preventive measures of limiting the number of livestock as damaging of Tibetans' traditional lifestyle.

Who on earth are truly concerned with the eco-environment on this Plateau?
